Nissan Frontier 2005-2023 LED Interior & License Plate Lamp Conversion Guide

What Is a Frontier 2005-2023 Interior LED Light Kit?

A Frontier 2005-2023 interior LED light kit is a set of direct-replacement bulbs that swap into the factory dome, map, reading, vanity, trunk, glove-box and footwell sockets without cutting or rewiring. (chassis codes D22, D40, D23, A60) AutoKitShop lists 13 Frontier 2005-2023 LED kits covering model years 1997 to 2020. Kits for this model run from 7-piece to 8-piece sets. Each bulb is rated at 300 lumens and roughly 3x the brightness of the original incandescent lamp, at a fraction of the current draw, with a 50,000-hour service life. Kits are supplied as complete sets with the correct socket adapters, so nothing needs to be ordered separately. If a bulb does not light on first fit, rotate it 180 degrees, because LEDs are polarity sensitive. Colour options are white (6000K), ice blue, warm white (3000K) and purple.

What Should You Know About Nissan Frontier 2005-2023 LED Interior Light?

The Nissan Frontier has been the quiet workhorse of the midsize truck segment for nearly two decades. From the 2005 second-gen launch through the 2023 models, it's been reliable, capable, and practical. But across all those years, Nissan never upgraded the interior bulbs. They're the same dim T10 and festoon incandescents that make finding anything in the cab at night a frustrating experience. AutoKitShop's 10-piece LED kit fixes that in under an hour.

This kit covers the front dome/map lights, rear cab light (for Crew Cab models), cargo light in the bed, license plate bulbs, and vanity mirror lights. All direct-fit replacements.

From the Frontier Forums

Club Frontier and the Nissan Frontier subreddit have extensive threads on interior LED swaps. The most common feedback: the dome light is a game-changer. The Frontier's stock dome bulb is a single festoon in the center of the cab that barely reaches the floorboards. An LED festoon throws light into the footwells and back seats properly. The bed/cargo light (available on later models with the Utili-track system) is another hot topic - the stock bed light is so dim you basically need a flashlight to use it.

Install Walkthrough

  1. Dome light: Pry the lens from the front edge with a trim tool. The Frontier uses a spring-clip festoon mount. Slide the old one out, slide the LED in - no polarity to worry about with festoons.
  2. Map lights: These are individual T10 wedge sockets above the rearview mirror area. Pull straight out with pliers-tweezers.
  3. Crew Cab rear: Same setup as the front dome. Usually on the headliner near the rear window.
  4. Cargo bed light: Located on the cab wall or rear of the bed. Pop the lens, swap the bulb.
  5. License plate: Two screws per housing. Apply dielectric grease to prevent corrosion.

CANbus Info

The Frontier doesn't use CANbus for interior monitoring. No warnings, no errors, no resistors needed. Plug and play across all model years 2005-2023.
