Nissan Versa Interior LED Swap: How a 10-Minute Bulb Change Transforms Your Cabin (2007-2026)

What Is a Versa Interior LED Light Kit?

A Versa interior LED light kit is a set of direct-replacement bulbs that swap into the factory dome, map, reading, vanity, trunk, glove-box and footwell sockets without cutting or rewiring. (chassis codes T30, T31, T32, J10) AutoKitShop lists 22 Versa LED kits covering model years 2007 to 2021. Kits for this model run from 2-piece to 10-piece sets. Each bulb is rated at 300 lumens and roughly 3x the brightness of the original incandescent lamp, at a fraction of the current draw, with a 50,000-hour service life. Kits are supplied as complete sets with the correct socket adapters, so nothing needs to be ordered separately. If a bulb does not light on first fit, rotate it 180 degrees, because LEDs are polarity sensitive. Colour options are white (6000K), ice blue, warm white (3000K) and purple.

What Should You Know About The Versa's Secret: It's Actually a?

The Nissan Versa doesn't get much love from the enthusiast press. It's an appliance — reliable, efficient, and thoroughly unexciting. But spend time on the Nissan Versa Forums or the Versa subreddit and you'll find a dedicated group of owners who've figured out that with a few small tweaks, the Versa is actually a perfectly pleasant daily driver. The most common tweak? Swapping the interior bulbs for LEDs.

The Versa's factory interior lighting is a masterclass in cost-cutting. The dome light is a single festoon bulb that somehow manages to be both dim and hot at the same time. The map lights are an afterthought. The trunk light — if your trim level even includes one — is about as useful as a keychain flashlight. At night the cabin feels cavernous and dark, which is ironic because the Versa actually has quite good outward visibility during the day.

AutoKitShop's LED kit covers every Versa from 2007 through the current 2026 model year, with different configurations for each generation. It's a 10-minute job on most trims, and the difference is immediately noticeable.

What Is Included in the Versa LED Kit?

  • 2007-2011 (First Gen, C11): 8-piece kit — dome, map, trunk, license plate
  • 2012-2023 (Second Gen, N17): 10-piece kit — adds additional dome and reading positions
  • 2024-2026 (Third Gen, N18): 10-piece kit — updated bulb types for the latest interior

The second and third generation kits are 10-piece because Nissan added more interior light positions (rear reading lights, additional cargo illumination) compared to the stripped-down first-gen models. If you're not sure which generation your Versa falls into, the easiest tell is the body shape: first-gen is the tall, almost minivan-like hatchback and stubby sedan; second-gen went more conventional sedan/coupe; third-gen is the current sharply-styled sedan.

What Should You Know About OEM vs LED: The Reality?

Aspect Nissan OEM Incandescent AutoKitShop LED Kit
Dome Light Output ~100 lumens (barely lights front seats) ~400-450 lumens (lights entire cabin)
Color Temperature 2700K (yellow/amber wash) 6000K / 3000K / Ice Blue / Purple
Power Draw Per Bulb 5W ~1.2W
Heat Generation Significant — lens discoloration over time Negligible — keeps lenses clear
Expected Lifespan 1,000-2,000 hours 30,000+ hours

How Do You Install LED Interior Lights in a Versa?

The Versa is an economy car, which means Nissan didn't go overboard with complicated trim fasteners. That's actually great for bulb swaps.

Dome light (all generations): The Versa's dome light is a single assembly in the center of the headliner. The clear lens pops off with a plastic pry tool at either side. The bulb is a ~31mm festoon on all years. Pop the old one out, push new LED in. That's it — 60 seconds.

Map lights (if equipped): Higher trim Versas have map lights in the overhead console. The console drops down by prying from the front edge. T10 wedge bulbs. On base models without map lights, those positions are just blank plates — the kit adjusts accordingly.

Trunk light: Sedan Versas have the trunk light mounted to the underside of the rear package shelf. Hatchback/Note models have it on the cargo wall. Both versions pull straight out. The connector has a press-tab release.

License plate lights: Two screws per housing on the outside. The Versa's plate light housings are shallow, so make sure the LED is fully seated before screwing them back on.

Will LED Bulbs Trigger a Warning Light on a Versa?

The first-gen Versa (2007-2011) has no CANbus monitoring on interior circuits — it's a basic switched electrical system. The second-gen (2012-2023) introduced some BCM control over the dome light (the gradual fade-on/fade-off), but the circuit isn't actively monitored for bulb resistance. The current third-gen (2024-2026) is similar — the dome light dimming is BCM-controlled but not monitored for faults.

What this means: you won't get error codes or hyper-flash with any of these kits. The bulbs still include regulated drivers because Nissan alternators aren't precision voltage sources, and LEDs with poor voltage regulation tend to develop flicker after a few months. These don't.

Which Colour Temperature Should You Choose?

  • White (6000K): Best for visibility. The Versa's interior is mostly dark plastics, so the extra brightness makes a real functional difference.
  • Ice Blue: Subtle and modern. The Versa's gauge cluster has white/blue illumination on later models, and ice blue interior LEDs complement it.
  • Warm White (3000K): The invisible upgrade. If you don't want passengers to notice you modded the car, this is the color.
  • Purple: For the Versa owners who aren't afraid to admit they care about how their car looks. Works surprisingly well in a black interior.

What About Shipping and Warranty?

AutoKitShop covers the kit with their warranty against defects and premature failure. The Versa is typically a high-mileage daily driver, which means the interior lights get used constantly (door-open illumination every time you get in or out). The 30,000+ hour rated lifespan of these LEDs means they'll realistically last the remaining life of the vehicle.

For less than $23, you're replacing every dim interior bulb in your Versa with something that actually illuminates the cabin. It's one of the highest-impact, lowest-effort mods you can do to this car, and it makes every night drive feel less like a cave exploration.
