What Is a Polo 9N 6R 6C Interior LED Light Kit?
A Polo 9N 6R 6C interior LED light kit is a set of direct-replacement bulbs that swap into the factory dome, map, reading, vanity, trunk, glove-box and footwell sockets without cutting or rewiring. (chassis codes T10, H15) AutoKitShop lists 76 Polo 9N 6R 6C LED kits covering model years 1990 to 2025. Kits for this model run from 2-piece to 13-piece sets. Each bulb is rated at 300 lumens and roughly 3x the brightness of the original incandescent lamp, at a fraction of the current draw, with a 50,000-hour service life. Kits are supplied as complete sets with the correct socket adapters, so nothing needs to be ordered separately. If a bulb does not light on first fit, rotate it 180 degrees, because LEDs are polarity sensitive. Colour options are white (6000K), ice blue, warm white (3000K) and purple.
Will LED Bulbs Trigger a Warning Light on a Polo 9N 6R 6C?
The Volkswagen Polo has been Europe's favorite supermini for over two decades, and the 9N (2002–2009), 6R (2010–2014), and 6C (2015–2017) generations represent the sweet spot — modern enough to have decent safety tech, old enough that you can still work on them without a dealer-level diagnostic tool for everything. The UK-Polos.net forum has entire sub-sections dedicated to lighting mods, and the number one question in those threads: "Will LEDs throw an error on my Polo?"
Short answer: not with this CANbus no-error LED interior kit. It's built specifically for the Polo 9N, 6R, and 6C — with the correct bulb count and types for each generation.
What You Get — 9N vs 6R/6C
- 9N (2002–2009): 10 bulbs. The pre-facelift Polo's lighting is basic — front dome, front map/reading lights, door lights, glove box, and boot light. The 9N3 facelift (2005–2009) has the same layout but brighter reflector housings that really benefit from LEDs.
- 6R / 6C (2010–2017): 9 bulbs. Slightly fewer positions than the 9N, but the reflector design is better, so light distribution is more even. The 6R and 6C use the same bulb types despite the facelift — the kit covers both.
Why the Polo Specifically Needs CANbus LEDs
VW's BCM (Body Control Module) in the 6R and 6C is notoriously picky about bulbs. It uses cold monitoring (periodic pulse checks when the lights are off) and hot monitoring (continuous when the lights are on). Cheap LEDs without resistors will work for about three seconds before the BCM shuts down that circuit and logs a fault. You then need VCDS or OBDeleven to clear it.
These Zitwo bulbs have the load resistors baked into each unit's circuit board — measured for VW's specific monitoring parameters. No coding. No warning lights. No flickering when the BCM does its cold check at 2am while the car is parked.
Installation — The Polo's Hidden Gotchas
Front dome (9N): The entire housing pulls down from the headliner — it's held by metal spring clips at the front and plastic tabs at the back. Pull from the front edge with firm, even pressure. Once down, the bulbs twist out from the back of the housing.
Front dome (6R/6C): Much easier — just the clear lens pops off. Small flathead in the notch on the passenger side. The bulbs are T10 wedges that pull straight out. On 6C models with the panoramic roof, the dome light is integrated into the overhead console — the whole unit needs to come down (two Torx T20 screws hidden under the sunglasses holder).
Door warning lights (all generations): The red reflector at the bottom of each door card. On 5-door Polos, the rear doors on lower trims might have dummy reflectors with no bulb — don't pry those open, there's nothing behind them. On higher trims, the light pries out from the bottom edge.
Boot light (all generations): Left side of the boot, in a small housing that twists out. If your Polo doesn't have a boot light at all (yes, base-model 9Ns didn't), the kit's bulb becomes a spare for the glove box.
Color Temperature Choices
White (6000K) — perfect for the Polo's clean, Germanic interior. Ice blue (8000K) — cooler, matches the gauge cluster's blue backlighting on 6R/6C models. Warm white (3000K) — if you want OEM+ subtlety. Purple — VW didn't build a Harlequin Polo interior, but you can create your own interpretation.
OEM vs LED
| Feature | OEM Halogen | CANbus LED Kit |
|---|---|---|
| Brightness | ~70 lumens | ~240 lumens |
| BCM Compatibility | Native | Tested — no cold/hot faults |
| VCDS Required | No | No — hardware resistor |
| Lifespan | 500–1,000 hours | 30,000+ hours |
| Power Consumption | 5W each | ~1.5W each |
| Heat | High | Negligible |
Backed by AutoKitShop warranty. If you're on UK-Polos.net and wondering if the kit's legit — it's been tested on actual Polos, not a bench power supply.
